A Letter From Bishop Rozanski ~ Bishop Visit, May 9

Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of the Cross Parish,

I and some staff from the Diocese will be on a pastoral visitation to your parish on Thursday, May 9. These visitations are an opportunity to better know the parishes in the Diocese and to support the ministries that the church provides for and with you. I hope I will have the opportunity to greet many of you personally with the various activities scheduled for the day. Please come and say hello, if you are able, at the 8:30 am Mass.

In case we do not have the opportunity to personally visit that day, I invite your thoughts on the following questions which I will explore with the parish staff during my visit:

  • Which ministries or services at Our Lady of the Cross Parish have you found especially helpful in supporting you, your family, neighbors and community?
  • How might Our Lady of the Cross Parish best continue or strengthen its ministry for its parishioners and the community?
  • What areas might the church leadership explore to be an even fuller witness of God’s love and healing among you?

After prayerful consideration, if you have thoughts on these questions I would appreciate receiving them by email to Sr. Paula Robillard, my assistant. Her email address is This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

God bless you and thank you for your role in the pastoral visitation of Our Lady of the Cross Parish.

+Bishop  Mitchell Rozanski; Bishop of Springfield

Decorators Needed

Next Saturday April 20, immediately after morning prayer (about 9:00 am), we will be decorating the church for Easter. If you have helped in the past or never decorated before, we could use your assistance. Thank you!

Blessing of Food

On Holy Saturday Poles around the world go to church with their Easter baskets to have them blessed by a priest. The food from the basket is then placed on the Easter table and shared during Swiecone, the name of the Easter brunch that is served after Mass on Easter Sunday. The contents of the Easter basket are both traditional and symbolic, reflecting the religious meaning of the Easter holiday.

The basket is usually covered with a white linen or lace cloth and decorated with greenery, pussywillows, and daffodils.

Despite this being a Polish tradition, all are welcome to bring baskets of food to be blessed!

Please consider making this a new family tradition. Any food that you serve on Easter may be brought for the blessing, including Easter candy.

The Blessing of Food will take place  on  Saturday, April 20 at 11:00 am, 12 & 1:00 pm.
